Importance of Filter Construction and Design For Your Vacuum Cleaner Dust Bags
It's important to remember that increasing the surface area of the dust bag filter media increases the vacuum cleaner's ability to move air through the bag.
This is particularly important for the primary filter located after the dirt container in bagless vacuum cleaners.
We've seen many bagless vacuum cleaners with the customer complaint of poor cleaning performance. A check of all the filters generally reveals a hopelessly clogged filter, usually with very small area.
Most bagless vacuum cleaners these days are made in China and are sometimes poorly designed - and that includes poorly designed filtration systems.
Very often the primary filter is made of flat foam about 5 inches in diameter and it provides very little area of filter media.
Another alternative is a band about 2 inches wide and 5 inches in diameter, which usually also gives the same or similar problem.
Some manufacturers place a fan-fold filter after the foam filter in order to trap the smaller particles. However, the foam filter quite quickly becomes clogged and coated after cleaning.
This is a major reason for buying a vacuum cleaner using disposable bags rather than a bagless vacuum cleaner.
A vacuum cleaner dust bag generally has a much more important filter media area as well as bag movement and air-flow inside the bag reduces coating and clogging.
